AGM REPORT Last year’s Annual General Meeting was held on Saturday 23 July in The Square Methodist Church in Dunstable. After the formalities members toured the church and then went on to see St Mary’s Roman Catholic church - an unusual building, the inspiration for Liverpool’s RC cathedral.
The final visit was to the 12th century Priory church of St Peter, for a brief tour followed by afternoon tea and Choral Evensong led by the Rector and Rural Dean the Rev’d Richard Andrews with their girls’ choir.
Preacher was Canon Malcolm Grant formerly Vicar of Eaton Bray and Provost of both Glasgow and Inverness cathedrals. In a powerful address he said “The principles of conservation must be integrated with but subservient to the church’s on-going mission which is the vital task for which God called it into being. Where this does not happen, we are simply spending money to preserve a museum-exhibit”. To read the rest of his sermon just click here. |

EVENSONG AT ST ALBANS CATHEDRAL A large congregation gathered in St Albans Abbey on Saturday 26 November 2011 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Trust with Choral Evensong, led by the Bishop of Bedford and sung by the cathedral choir. Amongst the many guests was the Trust’s Joint President, the Countess of Verulam, who is also HM Lord Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.
The address was given by a former Bishop of St Albans, the Rt Rev’d John Taylor, who had also preached the inaugural sermon of the Trust twenty years ago in Hatfield.
He spoke of the value of our inheritance of historic churches and how they were here for generations to use and enjoy, acting as God’s pulpit for the communities they serve. Click here for full sermon text

20TH ANNIVERSARY MARKED AT HATFIELD HOUSE Celebrations to mark the twentieth anniversary of the Trust began in spectacular style with a reception at Hatfield House, on 11 November.
As a Patron of the Trust, the Marquess of Salisbury, welcomed Trust joint President the Countess of Verulam, representatives of local authorities and friends and supporters from Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire to the historic Marble Hall of the House (pictured top right) and stressed the importance of protecting our heritage of fine church buildings.
Chairman Richard Genochio (pictured below right), watched over by Queen Elizabeth I, outlined the contribution that Trust had made towards the repair and restoration of churches and chapels in the two counties in the previous two decades and looked to its work continuing into the future.
There was an opportunity for guests to visit the chapel and view an exhibition of church photographs by distinguished photographer Cameron Newham.
